Lacquered chopsticks made using the Wakasa lacquering technique that has been used since the Edo period.
It is made using seashells and eggshells.
The pattern is first applied, then several coats of paint are applied on top of it, and then the product is polished to a finer finish. This "polishing technique" makes the product resistant to heat and moisture.
They are highly valued not only as works of art but also as durable, practical items.
